Our experienced female guides have countless tips and tricks to help you stay safe and comfortable on the trail. We will handle all the logistics, while also providing you a detailed gear list. Our owner and office manager (both women as well) will be available to answer any questions you may have before your trip!
Get outside, meet like-minded women, and experience the wonders of the wilderness up close! For three days and two nights, we will hike into the alpine, carrying only what we need and enjoying beautiful mountains, forests, and alpine lakes. This women’s hiking trip follows one of our favorite loops near Mammoth Lakes. Highlights of our route include Thousand Island Lake, Garnet Lake, Banner Peak, Mt. Ritter, and the Minarets!

Day 1 - Mammoth Lakes to Shadow Creek
We’ll meet in Mammoth Lakes for a quick gear check and to pick up any last-minute items before heading to the Agnew Meadows trailhead—either by car or via the shuttle bus. From here, we follow the River Trail along the San Joaquin River, winding past ancient Sierra junipers with their papery bark and sweeping branches.
A short, steep climb brings us to Shadow Lake, a glacier-carved bowl surrounded by dramatic peaks—and home to a perfect swimming rock for those feeling brave! From there, we continue along Shadow Creek, climbing steadily to our camp near the junction with the John Muir Trail.
Day 2 - Shadow Creek to Badger lakes
The sun rises early in the high country, and after breakfast we pack up and begin one of the most beautiful sections of the trip. A gentle climb brings us over a small pass to Garnet Lake, with side trails leading to the nearby gems of Ruby and Emerald Lakes.
We continue on to the broad shores of Thousand Island Lake, where we’ll stop for lunch and take in the stunning views of Mount Ritter and Banner Peak reflected in the water. From here, we hike on to our peaceful camp at Badger Lakes, surrounded by forest and granite ridges.
Day 3 - Badger Lakes to Trailhead
After breakfast, we break camp and begin our final day on the trail. With lighter packs, we contour below the crest of the San Joaquin Ridge, enjoying sweeping views back toward the peaks and lakes that framed our journey.
We plan to reach the Agnew Meadows trailhead by early afternoon—just in time for you to begin the drive back to town, carrying new skills, confidence, and memories from your first backpacking adventure.

Reviews
Durs, John Muir Trail 2025
“The trip exceeded my expectations in that everything and everyone was perfect. The support during the trip and the support given to the guides was excellent…Madeline and Kanyon gave exceptional personal service for 26 days! That is extremely hard to do. They cooked us wonderful breakfast, lunch and dinners for 25 days and satisfied all of us hikers…The best thing I can say about them is that both are the most capable outdoor experts I know (Dave is in this group too). I can’t think of any negatives to the greatest service they provided.”
Becky, Sky Marathon 2025
“Your service exceeded my expectations. This was my first backpacking trip and I felt well prepared in large part to your online resources (training plan, equipment list, route description). Heather was awesome – set a careful pace and was patient and personable…She kept us safe with tips and reminders throughout the trip. I appreciated her reviewing our equipment before we left and teaching me how to pack my bag and set up a tent.”
Paul, Evolution Loop Backpacking Trip
“I went on the 6-day Evolution Loop backpacking trip. I had the time of my life. The scenery was stunningly beautiful. Our guides kept us safe, prepared excellent meals, and were very knowledgeable about the area. They were friendly and kept us informed about what to expect each day. I only wish the trip lasted more days. I’ll be back for more.”
